My dad, Waldo McNaught, was the oldest of seven children. He was a journalist who ended up as a director of public relations at General Motors. We lived on the east side of Detroit, where I was born, in Flint, when Dad was heading up PR for Buick, Grand Blanc, where Dad headed up the creation of Warwick Hills Country Club, and the Buick Open, and finally in Birmingham, MI, where this family photo was taken.

Ray Struble, one of seven brothers from Wichita, KS, and I, one of seven from Detroit, met in Boston, through Dignity, on May 4, 1976. Lincoln is our third dog. We name our dogs after famous gay people.

The Photo Album - Family

All that I am, and have to give, is the sum total of all of my life experiences. My soul, or inner being, is impacted by even the most chance and brief encounters. So, I’d like you to meet the very first people who impacted me, my biological family. Here you’ll see my parents and brothers and sisters. I’m one of seven, but only five of us lived past childhood. I’m in the middle: Michael, Kathy, Brian, Tom, and Maureen.

The Photo Album - Friends

I’ve been fortunate to have been surrounded many very fine people in my life. My best friends, of whom there have been many, touched and transformed me very deeply. When you meet me, you meet my best friends, as they are inextricably part of my soul. Easily, a hundred people fit the description of best friend in my life. They have come and gone. And, hundreds more people have been very close to me. There are way too many faces to show you, so, I’ve selected two people, both of whom have died, who were higher angels on my journey. They are Mary Lee Tatum and Alison Deming. If you know them, you understand how they touched my life. If you don’t know them, it would require too much space to adequately describe our friendships.

My mother, Mary Virginia Day McNaught, was born and raised in Detroit, one of five children, the others boys. She and my dad had seven children, of whom five lived beyond their second year of life. I am the middle child.

The Photo Album - Home

Ray’s and my homes are our holy sanctuaries, where only good energy is invited in. We spend a great deal of time at home, enjoying each other’s company, and that of our guests. We’ve been good stewards of the homes we’ve occupied in Brookline and Gloucester, MA, Hillsboro, NH, Atlanta, GA, New York, NY, Provincetown, MA, San Francisco, CA, Naples and Ft. Lauderdale, FL, and Tupper Lake, NY. These photos are of the homes of which we are guardians today, South Haven in Ft. Lauderdale, and The Lodge at Hemlock Ledge in Tupper Lake.
